When DCeased was announced a lot of returning fans were a little disappointed to learn there would be no playable Zombie mode to match with Marvel Zombies. Now of course there are a number of reasons for this; they’ve been explained elsewhere if you’re interested. As for myself, I say there’s always reasons not to do something. I think a bunch of us want to do it anyway. So this is my effort, over the coming months, before the Kickstarter ships out I will have posted playable rules for every Zombie Hero. You can mix them with your Marvel Zombies, custom up some rules to run them in DCeased missions, or just laugh at how bad my ideas are. Lots of people have some cool ideas for how to make these characters. These are just mine.
My customs are designed to feel balanced next to existing designs. They are designed with simplicity in mind; simplicity is what makes Zombicide so fun. I also design my customs to match the sculpt of the model and the version and powers that are presented there. In designing custom playable Zombie Heroes I have developed the term “Militia” as a shorthand to mean Trooper, Guard or Specialist. All cards were made using Wuxyteo’s card creator, which is pretty great.
Finally we finish up our trip to space with the inimitable Kilowog. Kilowog is unsurprisingly the tankiest of the Green Lantern zombies. Like all the other he can use his Power Ring to launch powerful ranged blasts with 3 dice hitting on 4+. He can absolutely do ranged combat perfectly well, he is a Green Lantern. But you might find he does just as well when he gets stuck in melee. At Blue Bolovaxian Zombie is his signature skill, and it gives him 2 great abilities. First it lets him reroll attacks against his own Zone, making him decidedly more accurate up close. Second it lets you discard Traits to prevent Wounds. Normally abilities like this are worded in such a way that you can’t use them to protect yourself from Ravenous damage, but in testing so far I have found this to be fine as is. Maybe after a dozen games I’d want to restrict it but for now I am leaving it as is. Traits are pretty expensive to toss out just to keep yourself from running hot, and I also like the idea of a green lantern resisting hunger through iron will, at least for a moment. At Orange you get a powerful zombie charge that lets you rush forward and take a free bite. Remember Bolovaxian Zombie will let you reroll misses on this Devour attack as long as it is in your Zone, which barring any shenanigans, it should be. Finally at Red his drill instructor background shows giving him the ability to lend his team free actions.
And that’s all the boxes. Next up we’ll get started on aaaall them stretch goal Zombies!
