When DCeased was announced a lot of returning fans were a little disappointed to learn there would be no playable Zombie mode to match with Marvel Zombies. Now of course there are a number of reasons for this; they’ve been explained elsewhere if you’re interested. As for myself, I say there’s always reasons not to do something. I think a bunch of us want to do it anyway. So this is my effort, over the coming months, before the Kickstarter ships out I will have posted playable rules for every Zombie Hero. You can mix them with your Marvel Zombies, custom up some rules to run them in DCeased missions, or just laugh at how bad my ideas are. Lots of people have some cool ideas for how to make these characters. These are just mine.
My customs are designed to feel balanced next to existing designs. They are designed with simplicity in mind; simplicity is what makes Zombicide so fun. I also design my customs to match the sculpt of the model and the version and powers that are presented there. In designing custom playable Zombie Heroes I have developed the term “Militia” as a shorthand to mean Trooper, Guard or Specialist. All cards were made using Wuxyteo’s card creator, which is pretty great.
Moving on now to Man-Bat we have the interesting case of a guy who was already a shrieking bloodthirsty creature of the night before he was infected. Man-Bat gives you good attacking power that grows into a fast hunter killer as he levels up. His basic claw attack is improved by his undead hunger right from Blue, giving him exploding 6s on his attacks. You can get into a little trouble if bad luck follows your good luck and you wind up rolling a few extra ones than you were ready for. Plan accordingly, no one said undeath was easy. At Orange you never need to fear getting stuck again, as you can always fly away, and once per turn you can even drift up to 3 zones away in one action. At Red Man-Bat adds his sonar to his speed, allowing him to streak across the board to pluck up a Bystander almost from anywhere he pleases, even if they are well protected. Man-Bat hits hard and gets where he needs to be but he has no reactive or defensive abilities, so he runs the risk of burning out if he ranges too far ahead, or without support. Claw Frenzy and his stats also make Super Heroes a risky engagement, but at least once he gets to Orange he can run away if his initial attack gets a no sell.
