When Theme Breaks Balance – Warlords of the Rising Sun Review

CMON’s latest survivor pack for White Death, Warlords of the Rising Sun, has hit the table — and it might be the most thematic (and most broken) expansion we’ve seen yet.

Eight Sengoku-era legends — Nobunaga, Ieyasu, Hideyoshi, Hanzo, Mitsuhide, Mitsunari, Shingen, and Kenshin — join the fight, with the folkloric ninja Fūma Kotarō appearing as a necromancer. The designs are clearly built around their historical reputations, which makes this pack feel like a Sengoku “what if” apocalypse scenario.

That’s what makes it awesome — and also what makes it messy. Some survivors (like Nobunaga and Hanzo) can steamroll missions, while others barely leave a mark. Theme wins, balance loses.

🎥 I just put together a full review here with breakdowns of every character → https://youtu.be/lSaF_fulMis

What do you all think: do you love when CMON leans hard into theme, even if it wrecks balance — or do you prefer survivor packs that slot into the system more cleanly?
