When DCeased was announced a lot of returning fans were a little disappointed to learn there would be no playable Zombie mode to match with Marvel Zombies. Now of course there are a number of reasons for this; they’ve been explained elsewhere if you’re interested. As for myself, I say there’s always reasons not to do something. I think a bunch of us want to do it anyway. So this is my effort, over the coming months, before the Kickstarter ships out I will have posted playable rules for every Zombie Hero. You can mix them with your Marvel Zombies, custom up some rules to run them in DCeased missions, or just laugh at how bad my ideas are. Lots of people have some cool ideas for how to make these characters. These are just mine.
My customs are designed to feel balanced next to existing designs. They are designed with simplicity in mind; simplicity is what makes Zombicide so fun. I also design my customs to match the sculpt of the model and the version and powers that are presented there. In designing custom playable Zombie Heroes I have developed the term “Militia” as a shorthand to mean Trooper, Guard or Specialist. All cards were made using Wuxyteo’s card creator, which is pretty great.
The Flash was a big part of why Anti-Life went out of control in the comics, and I wanted to justice to what a scary concept he would be if he were dedicated to eating people. I also wanted him to play differently from Quicksilver or even from his living self. Living Flash is a guy using his powers to help and save people, Zombie Flash is less focused, less precise, and a whole lot more vicious. Let’s take a look.
To start he has the same basic attack, his rapid strikes being good for clearing crowds with 3 dice hitting on 4 or better. But right away he begins to focus on getting around crowds and zipping across the board, as Fastest Man Undead ensures he moves 2 Zones per move action and that he can dodge crowds by increasing Hunger. This does mean if he becomes Ravenous he can’t use that ability though, so take care that you don’t trap yourself in a box you can’t chew your way out of. At Orange the speed becomes dangerous, allowing him to take lethal bites out of troopers while leaving their shocked comrades in the dust, while also mitigating his hunger a little. At Red he’s shifting into the Speed Force no matter the damage it does to the world around him. This means a couple things, first doors don’t slow him down anymore, he phases right through them and blows them off their hinges when he does. Secondly he can focus his speed on a disrupting shockwaves that spreads free hits equal to his Hunger after he takes a run through a Zone. All combined Flash zips around the board like an all but unstoppable red streak, sowing chaos and free hits as he does. He takes a little finesse to combine his skills, and he can get boxed in if he winds up behind a wall of high toughness enemies, but he will run roughshod through almost everything else.
