DCeased Arkham Asylum Box Zombies: Scarecrow

When DCeased was announced a lot of returning fans were a little disappointed to learn there would be no playable Zombie mode to match with Marvel Zombies. Now of course there are a number of reasons for this; they’ve been explained elsewhere if you’re interested. As for myself, I say there’s always reasons not to do something. I think a bunch of us want to do it anyway. So this is my effort, over the coming months, before the Kickstarter ships out I will have posted playable rules for every Zombie Hero. You can mix them with your Marvel Zombies, custom up some rules to run them in DCeased missions, or just laugh at how bad my ideas are. Lots of people have some cool ideas for how to make these characters. These are just mine.

My customs are designed to feel balanced next to existing designs. They are designed with simplicity in mind; simplicity is what makes Zombicide so fun. I also design my customs to match the sculpt of the model and the version and powers that are presented there. In designing custom playable Zombie Heroes I have developed the term “Militia” as a shorthand to mean Trooper, Guard or Specialist. All cards were made using Wuxyteo’s card creator, which is pretty great.

Now for a villain who is truly out standing in his field; the Scarecrow. Scarecrow is all about battlefield control. He’s among the worst hand to hand fighters in the game with a low basic attack. Professor Crane seems to have left his scythe at home today, leaving him with the powers of a middle aged academic with a bag over his head. But Hunger can make him pretty fierce anyway, and you don’t play Scarecrow for his fighting abilities. His Blue ability is a heavy dose of crowd control. Jump Scare lets you booga booga everyone who survives his melee attacks out of his zone. This gives him a lot of survivability and capacity to group enemies up for crowd control specialists to sweep up, or even just scare the protectors off a yummy Bystander. Because it requires a Hunger increase to use, you lose access to it while Ravenous, so try to keep a full belly when you can. At Orange he joins other illusionist or deceptive characters with the ability to make enemies wander around. This is a free action that you can do once a turn just to set things where you want to be. This ability is more for breaking up crowds than forming them though, as you can not move enemies into a zone with other enemies. Finally at Red you can unleash the fear toxin and become an undead avatar of fear, at least in the minds of your victims. This lets you scare whole squads of goons to death, although at the cost of immediately becoming Ravenous. As the capstone to a few Jump Scares this can absolutely empty the battlefield at a key moment.
